The glittering ceremony of the ICC Cricket World Cup is underway and there are stars, politicians and of course players from the participation nations who have come in their best gears.
The ICC World Cup in the subcontinent has come after a long time and it is happening for the first time in Bangladesh (that is co-hosting the tournament along with India and Sri lanka. Pakistan was omitted from hosting following a string of terrorist attacks in that nation.
The inauguration ceremony began with recital of Bangla song sung by singers wearing colorful attire.
A report says, “Ok, the speeches are done and now we have electronic kites flying around. And a 3-D electronic depiction of the World Cup on a building outside the stadium. Now the image of a pitch on that building. Ok, is this Bangabandhu or Hogwarts? We have a bunch of people abseiling down the wall of the building! They are going to play cricket completely horizontally”.
Sheikh Hasina, the Bangla Prime Minister inaugurated the function. I am sure Khalida Zia must be fuming with anger as she failed to inaugurate the occasion.
The captains of the cricketing nations were sitting on the dais and the best thing was that Dhoni was seated next to Pakistani captain Shahid Afridi.
In the meantime India will face Bangladesh in the inaugural match. Bangladesh has majored to be an important cricketing nation after the great show of form in recent months.
I am sure that they continue to show the same form that they showed against New Zealand and Zimbabwe.
