IPL 2011: Lavazza partners with Rajasthan Royals for IPL season IV

Global coffee house Lavazza, which operates 'Barista Lavazza' cafes in India , on Friday said it has partnered with Rajasthan Royals for the fourth edition of the IPL T20 cricket league that starts tonight.

"We are very excited to partner with the Rajasthan Royals team as their official coffee partner. A host of exciting promotions and activities to engage with our consumers are being planned at the Barista Lavazza cafes," Lavazza Director South Asia R Shivashankar said in a statement.

As part of the partnership, the company said it has lined up various promotional activities at the Barista Lavazza cafes.

Consumers will also get a chance to meet Rajasthan Royals players and get signed merchandises such as bats and balls and other Barista Lavazza vouchers, the company added.

IPL 2011 off to a Grand Start

Chennai Super King : 153/4 in 20 Overs  [ A Srikanth 64, S Raina 33, MS Dhoni 29,Albie Morkel 15 * , Kallis 2/34] beat Kolkata Knight Riders 151 /7 in 20  Overs [ Kallis 54 , MSD Bisla 27, HK Tiwary 27 ] by 2 runs.

Man of the Match: S Anirudha [CSK]

Captain Cool MS Dhoni outwitted his fellow Indian Team mate Gautam Gambhir as Chennai Super King [CSK] pulled off a thrilling 2 runs victory over Kolkata Knight Riders [KKK] in the exiting opening match of IPL 4thversion. It seems that Indian Captain has a Midas touch. Whatever is doing now is working in his favor , whatever is touching is turning gold. CSK for most part of the match were on the back foot. KKK was cursing by mid way of their innings. But brilliant bowling changes and field setting by Dhoni and some smart stumping led CSK win the thriller.  There was not even a World Cup hangover. Worshippers of cricket assembled in good numbers, danced and sang as the home team made a winning start.

A revamped KKK with a depleted side for absence of three key players Bret Lee, Brad Haddin and Saquibul Hasan [busy in ODI series in Dhaka] held the upper hand for most part of the game. But poor fielding and inexcusable batting order setting by Gautam Gambhir cost them the match.

IPL T20 Championship featuring 14 Indian Franchise and displaying cricket talents from all over the cricket world went off to a glamouorous start yesterday. World cricket remains glued to this cricket festival as it is glamorous cocktail of Bolywood and World cricket. The fourth edition has widened its scope as not two more franchise has been added widening it still deep into Indian Territory.

Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat. KKK could have put CSK on the back foot very early if Yusuf Pathan did not drop two easy catches to get rid of Rina and Aniruddha Srikanth.Junior Srikanth went on to score 64 and Raina added useful 33 in a low scoring match Dhoni looked a little bit dazed. Still he scored 29 .KKK Bowlers Kallis, Iqubal Abuddlah and Yusuf Pathan bowled tight line and length to restrict CSK to manageable score of 153.

Instead of Gambhir opening the innings with Kallis Bisla was sent in. The opening pair added 64 before Bishla fell to Jakati. Gambhir must have come in at number 3 .But instead Yusuf Pathan was sent .Yusf looked shaky and ran himself out. Gambhir at number 3 could have piloted the innings as Kallis looked in usual touch. By the time Gambhir appeared at number 6 it was already late. CSK n bowlers stemmed the flow of runs.Tiwary and Morgan could hardly make any impression. When Kallis left at 54 skying one from Ashwin the slide started. Still Tiwary and Shukla kept the momentum till second last over. KKK required only 7 runs in the last over for photo finish. Dhoni brought in Tim Souhtee. It still appeared a cake walk with 4 wickets left. But Southee bowled a superv last over picking up the wicket of Shukla and conceding only 4 runs. CSK won the first match by 2 runs on the last ball.

All Change For IPL 2011 But Cricket Must Dominate

Imagine if the Manchester Uniteds or Barcelonas of this world were told they would have to go into the new season with just four of their current players and the rest were released and auctioned off to the highest bidder. It's not easy - but that is the backdrop to the fourth season of the Indian Premier League. Indeed, only two teams, the 2010 finalists Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians chose to retain four players so it really is a question of all change.

Just as back in 2008, it is therefore crucial for the franchises to gel, and gel quickly if they are to succeed. With the tournament also coming just six days after the conclusion of the World Cup - too soon, perhaps, for some - what price the Rajasthan Royals, for whom everything came together so well three years ago under the auspices of  Shane Warne, turning back the clock?

Well, 14/1, if you ask bet365, but don't underestimate the influence of Shane Warne and the fact that they have again chosen a number of young, hungry Indian players and although they are at risk if they suffer with injuries, a small squad could work in their favour.

The opening match throws World Cup winners and the heroes of the final Gautam Gambhir (Kolkata Knight Riders) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings) against each other as captains. Gambhir is seen by some as the natural successor to Dhoni (although for me, Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli would be better long-term bets) and will be desperate to win, not only to put one over on one another but justify his $US 2.4 million price tag. He is now the most expensive player in the tournament's history but his calmness at the crease could be exactly what the Knight Riders need.

They have garnered a reputation for building attractive-looking squads filled with superstars that fail to deliver consistently. They have managed to field a host of top Twenty20 performers in the likes of Brad Hodge, Brendon McCullum and Chris Gayle, for example, but hardly gelled as a unit. Perhaps 2011 will be their year.

Chennai will be there or there abouts come the play-off week. They retained and then reacquired many of the team which did superbly well in 2010 and following their Champions League win they are chasing a remarkable hat-trick as they continue to build their reputation as one of the most consistent and impressive Twenty20 teams in the world.

We also have two new teams in the Kochi Tuskers Kerala (or the franchise previously known as the Indi Commandoes) and the Pune Warriors. Kochi will be well-led by Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene, now freed of his role as Sri Lankan vice-captain and he will enjoy skippering his old mate Muttiah Muralitharan, one of the players Chennai didn't retain and were unable to recapture at auction.

Pune are my tip to reach the play-offs, along with Chennai, Mumbai and the Royals. I expect Yuvraj Singh, in the form of his life, to lift the team significantly - at least in the first few weeks - and if they can build a winning run, they could be the surprise package. Jesse Ryder and Nathan McCullum enjoyed decent World Cups while Graeme Smith and Robin Uthappa have one thing in common - they are proven IPL performers.

As for the rest - who knows? Past performances no longer count for much due to the way in which the make-up of the franchises has changed although I do expect Mumbai, driven on by Sachin Tendulkar, who will celebrate his 38th birthday during the tournament, to continue to be a serious threat. How can they not be with Kieron Pollard, Harbhajan Singh and Andrew Symonds in the squad?

What the shake-up and the auction has provided, is some extra interest as there is now genuine curiosity among cricket followers - young and old - as to how the new teams will shape up. Time will obviously tell, but most of all, we are all hoping for a tournament where the cricket does the talking. For too long, the IPL has had to beat off controversy after controversy.

For all the new players, auctions, dollar signs, Super Overs and sixes that are attracting attention for the right reasons, the IPL organisers will be desperate that the competition passes off as quietly as an IPL tournament can. That would be a success for everybody concerned.

IPL 2011: 'Daredevils will put in more than 100 percent'

07sli1 Delhi Daredevils is all set to scorch the field, if captain Virender Sehwag is to be believed. Riding high on the World Cup triumph, Sehwag, on Wednesday, said that he would like to lift the IPL trophy as well.

The dashing Delhi batsman, who confessed that he would like high-tempo music to be played during his time at the crease, said this time his team would give more than a hundred percent to emerge winners.

- Dhoni's Kings fired up to face Gambhir's Knights

"In the first two editions of the IPL we managed to reach the semi-finals, but in its third edition we did not qualify even for that. I would like to change that.

"I am promising Delhi fans that this time around, the team will put in more than a hundred percent  and get rid of its tag as not being good finishers. We want to lift the Cup this time," Sehwag said, in response to a question from rediff.com.

IPL 2011: Are you ready for IPL 4?

With all the hoopla surrounding Indian cricket after becoming world champs, the stage is set for Indian Premier League season 4. IPL as seen in the previous years has been amongst the most entertaining cricket events of the year. IPL 4 kicks off tomorrow with the defending champions Chennai Super Kings taking on the star studded Kolkata Knight Riders 8 PM IST. The match will be played on Chennai’s home turf and according to sources there will be a grand opening ceremony to the event. Shah Rukh Khan is expected to dance to the tunes in the opening ceremony which will surely set the stage on fire.

The biggest news in this season’s IPL is the reshuffling of players which will surely have some people confused. So, the next time you see the former Delhi Daredevils captain wearing a Kolkata Knight Riders jersey don’t be surprised because he has been paid a whopping amount to play for KKR. Secondly, there has been an addition of two new teams, Sahara Pune Warriors and Kochi Tuskers which is sure to spice up the contest even further.

Another change in this year’s IPL edition is that the number of matches that are reduced from 94 to 73. All ten teams are divided into two groups of 5 teams each and all of them will play 4 league matches against each other and two more against the fifth team which will be chosen randomly. IPL4 is set to define the future of Indian Premier League as many think that cricket has been overdone while others think that adding new teams and re-shuffling the players will add more spice to this curry.

It’s only been a week since the world cup got over and since then the Indian team has been showered with gifts. There is a huge high after the world cup and people surely want to see Dhoni, Sachin, Sehwag and for that matter the world champs back in action. Though, it will be difficult for people to adjust their sentiments after the world cup win but the event promises to be a cracker.

While some players will be playing to enhance their resume just after the world cup win while others will be playing to seek a comeback into the national team. Players like Ishant Sharma, Irfan Pathan and Robin Uthappa have already stated that they want to use IPL as a stepping stone to enter into the national team.

The IPL has always been an unpredictable tournament which certainly makes it one of the most exciting events of the year. This season kicks off 8 PM in the evening tomorrow and the TRP’s are expected to soar higher than ever before.

IPL 2011 to be held in new more rigorous IPL format

THE INDIAN Premier League (IPL), 2011, will be contested between ten teams with two new teams added by the BCCI, i.e., Sahara Pune Warriors from Pune and Kochi Tuskers Kerala from Kochi.
IPL 2011 will be played  form April 8 to May 28 2011 with the new format, which was announced by the IPL governing council.

The format is based on last year's domestic T20 Tournament in New Zealand. In new IPL format, there will be total of 74 matches in the IPL 4 Fixtures. Out of these 70 would be league matches and each IPL team will play at least 14 matches, 7 matches will be played at home venue and remaining at away venues.

IPL 2011's new format is as follows:

IPL 2011 Teams will be divided in two groups of five teams each. But IPL Standings table will not be separate.

Each IPL team in the same group will play two matches against each other, on “home-away” ground each, counting to 8 league matches per team.

Each IPL team will play 1 league match each against 4 teams of other group and 2 league matches home or away against the fifth team selected randomly, counting to 6 matches per team. It results in 14 (8+6) games in the league matches before the next playoff round.

All IPL 2011 league matches will count to 70 before 3 playoff matches begin, namely Game A, Game B and Game C.

Top 2 teams in the IPL points table will play each other in first playoff of Game A. Winner of Game A will go straight to the final.

Game B, 2nd playoff will be between teams at third and fourth spot in the IPL standings. Whoever looses Game B will be out of the league.

Game B winner will still need to contest in third playoff Game C against loser of first playoff i.e. Game A for entering into Finals of IPL 2011.

Then, off course, the last match, IPL 2011 Grand Finale, would be played between winner of Game A and Game C.

IPL 2011 Opening Ceremony likely to be hosted by Amitabh Bachchan

ESPN ad rates soar to 20 lakh per 10 seconds for India-Pakistan semifinal

If you think it was only the tickets for India-Pakistan semi-final match which were getting sold for more than one lakh, then probably you are wrong. Even the advertisers are ready to shell out moolah just to get a ten second ad spot during the India-Pakistan semi final match.

Media experts feel that India Pakistan semi final match is biggest marketing opportunity on the planet and it will attract crores of eyeballs. No GEC or IPL can provide that viewership. So the advertisers can’t let it go. Even on the online platform the match will register record number of online streaming.

Subhrangshu Neogi of Religare, one of the on air advertisers in the cricket world cup told BestMediaInfo.com, “One of the biggest advantages with advertising on ESPN for the world cup is that its not cluttered as an IPL environment. The brand gets good visibility. That’s not in the case of IPL or any other event. We are not sponsors but we have cherry picked some matches and fortunately it has worked for us as India and Pakistan are clashing in the semifinal.”

ESPN is charging over Rs.20 lakh per 10 seconds for the last minute ad inventory and advertisers are even to ready to pay the amount as they know that never in coming years they’ll get a bigger marketing opportunity than the India-Pakistan semi-final world cup match .

The rates ranged from Rs 4-5 lakh for 10-second spots before the start of the tournament to Rs 10-11 lakh when it was clear that India will play Australia in the quarter final.

Bollywood Shouts 'Cut' for India vs Pak

Cricket comes first for B-Town biggies. And when it's India and Pakistan in the World Cup semi-finals in Mohali, one can safely imagine B-Town shutting shop for the duration of the match.

So, come Wednesday, some will get their shoots preponed while most will watch the match at home or between extended breaks at work. A few will even watch the match live.

Deepika Padukone: (Watching it in London) "I will be in London shooting for Desi Boyz. As it is behind India in time, I will get ready early and catch the match before my afternoon shoot. I wish I was in Mohali, catching the action live."

IPL 2011 Kareena Kapoor: (Hoping for things to wrap up fast) "I will be busy shooting for Reema Kagti's film with Aamir on that day unless things wrap up fast. Knowing Aamir's around, it probably will!"

Akshay Kumar: Sajid Khan, Sajid Nadiadwala and a few of my close friends are coming over to watch the semis between India and Pakistan on the plasma TV in my house. I love cricket. I am not cheering any particular player but I'm rooting for India. Team India has to win!

Aamir Khan: (Prepones shoot. Now, from 10 am to 2 pm) The actor plans to watch the match with his family at home. He made director Reema Kagti, whose film he is currently starring in, change the timing of the Wednesday schedule, making it from 10 am to 2 pm, so that the cast and crew could catch the action.

Sunil Shetty: (Will be in Mohali) "I am a huge cricket lover. Gautam Singhania and I will head to Mohali for the semis between India and Pakistan. I am rooting for Team India and not for any player in particular."

Sanjay Dutt: (Can't miss it even though he's in HK) "Though I love cricket and have watched most of the World Cup matches, sadly for the semis between India and Pakistan I am not there. What a match it will be! I am in Hong Kong shooting for Dhamaal 2. I will watch it somewhere or maybe on the Net. Though I am rooting for Team India, I love Sachin and Sehwag."

Ajay Devgn: (Will watch during the shoot) "I will be shooting for Rohit Shetty's Singham in Goa and will watch the match between breaks. Rohit has promised to wind up the shoot early that day so we can all get to watch at least half the match."

Anil Kapoor: (Wants Sachin to crack a ton) "Yes, I do plan to watch the cricket semis between India and Pakistan as I love cricket. As of now, I'm a bit uncertain of my plans as I have some guests from Los Angeles flying down for a meeting and at night I'm having a small dinner party. I love watching Sachin Tendulkar's game and it would be fantastic if he got his 100th century during this match! I'm happy Yuvraj has struck form and playing brilliantly now. It's also a great opportunity for India and Pakistan to strengthen their ties in this match and make it a friendship match though on-the-field aggression and competition will be there."

Bipasha Basu: (Catching it at home) "I have still not decided where I will watch the match. Maybe, socially or at home with close friends. But am flying back from Kolkata on that day! Cheering for the entire team and hope they make us proud!"

Sonam Kapoor (Loves to watch Sachin) "I don't know yet whether I will be watching the semis or not. I enjoy the game of cricket, especially when India's playing. I love watching Sachin Tendulkar play!"

Imran Khan: (Wants a TV on the sets) "I'm going to be shooting in Madh Island the entire day. I'm just hoping our director understands our excitement and puts a TV on the sets."

Times, Nimbus scout for global partners to sublicense IPL rights

Times Internet and Nimbus Communication on Tuesday said they are looking for global partners across media platforms to sublicense IPL rights that they have bagged this week from the BCCI.
The BCCI on Sunday announced that the media rights tender for IPL's global Internet, mobile and radio rights, along with television rights in certain television territories have been awarded to a consortium led by Times Internet Ltd for Rs 261.6 crore for four years till 2014.
A part of the consortium, Nimbus said it has the global broadcast rights, excluding territories of the Indian sub-continent, Australia, South Africa, West Asia, the Caribbean, Hong Kong and Singapore. It is now scouting for tie-up with global partners in over 60 countries.
"We are in talks with companies for partnership in over 60 countries for which Nimbus has bagged the TV broadcast rights for IPL," Nimbus Communications COO Yannick Colaco told PTI.
The TV rights for Indian sub-continent along with certain other territories that continue to be held by SET MAX were however, not part of the tender offer. The IPL 2011 season starts on April 8 when Chennai Super Kings host the Kolkata Knight Riders in Chennai.
Colaco said Nimbus is mainly looking at advertising and subscription as primary revenue streams from the international markets.
Similarly Times Internet that has radio, Internet and mobile rights for the IPL is also looking to sublicense the rights with BCCI's approval in countries outside India.
"Primarily, we would be looking at sublicensing of mobile and radio rights in territories that we are not present in, with the approval of the BCCI," Times Internet CEO Rishi Khiani said.
He said in case of the Internet, the company will manage almost all the territories across the globe on its own.
"There is a huge opportunity to tap large audience in cricket playing nations and countries which have a big chunk of cricket fans," Khiani said.
For revenue generation, the company is looking at different models, including advertisements, subscription, sponsorships and pay-per-page download, he said.
Neither Nimbus nor Times Internet divulged the revenue expectation from the new rights merely saying the event offers an opportunity to make good money.
