IPL 2011: Lavazza partners with Rajasthan Royals for IPL season IV

Global coffee house Lavazza, which operates 'Barista Lavazza' cafes in India , on Friday said it has partnered with Rajasthan Royals for the fourth edition of the IPL T20 cricket league that starts tonight.

"We are very excited to partner with the Rajasthan Royals team as their official coffee partner. A host of exciting promotions and activities to engage with our consumers are being planned at the Barista Lavazza cafes," Lavazza Director South Asia R Shivashankar said in a statement.

As part of the partnership, the company said it has lined up various promotional activities at the Barista Lavazza cafes.

Consumers will also get a chance to meet Rajasthan Royals players and get signed merchandises such as bats and balls and other Barista Lavazza vouchers, the company added.

IPL 2011 off to a Grand Start

Chennai Super King : 153/4 in 20 Overs  [ A Srikanth 64, S Raina 33, MS Dhoni 29,Albie Morkel 15 * , Kallis 2/34] beat Kolkata Knight Riders 151 /7 in 20  Overs [ Kallis 54 , MSD Bisla 27, HK Tiwary 27 ] by 2 runs.

Man of the Match: S Anirudha [CSK]

Captain Cool MS Dhoni outwitted his fellow Indian Team mate Gautam Gambhir as Chennai Super King [CSK] pulled off a thrilling 2 runs victory over Kolkata Knight Riders [KKK] in the exiting opening match of IPL 4thversion. It seems that Indian Captain has a Midas touch. Whatever is doing now is working in his favor , whatever is touching is turning gold. CSK for most part of the match were on the back foot. KKK was cursing by mid way of their innings. But brilliant bowling changes and field setting by Dhoni and some smart stumping led CSK win the thriller.  There was not even a World Cup hangover. Worshippers of cricket assembled in good numbers, danced and sang as the home team made a winning start.

A revamped KKK with a depleted side for absence of three key players Bret Lee, Brad Haddin and Saquibul Hasan [busy in ODI series in Dhaka] held the upper hand for most part of the game. But poor fielding and inexcusable batting order setting by Gautam Gambhir cost them the match.

IPL T20 Championship featuring 14 Indian Franchise and displaying cricket talents from all over the cricket world went off to a glamouorous start yesterday. World cricket remains glued to this cricket festival as it is glamorous cocktail of Bolywood and World cricket. The fourth edition has widened its scope as not two more franchise has been added widening it still deep into Indian Territory.

Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat. KKK could have put CSK on the back foot very early if Yusuf Pathan did not drop two easy catches to get rid of Rina and Aniruddha Srikanth.Junior Srikanth went on to score 64 and Raina added useful 33 in a low scoring match Dhoni looked a little bit dazed. Still he scored 29 .KKK Bowlers Kallis, Iqubal Abuddlah and Yusuf Pathan bowled tight line and length to restrict CSK to manageable score of 153.

Instead of Gambhir opening the innings with Kallis Bisla was sent in. The opening pair added 64 before Bishla fell to Jakati. Gambhir must have come in at number 3 .But instead Yusuf Pathan was sent .Yusf looked shaky and ran himself out. Gambhir at number 3 could have piloted the innings as Kallis looked in usual touch. By the time Gambhir appeared at number 6 it was already late. CSK n bowlers stemmed the flow of runs.Tiwary and Morgan could hardly make any impression. When Kallis left at 54 skying one from Ashwin the slide started. Still Tiwary and Shukla kept the momentum till second last over. KKK required only 7 runs in the last over for photo finish. Dhoni brought in Tim Souhtee. It still appeared a cake walk with 4 wickets left. But Southee bowled a superv last over picking up the wicket of Shukla and conceding only 4 runs. CSK won the first match by 2 runs on the last ball.

All Change For IPL 2011 But Cricket Must Dominate

Imagine if the Manchester Uniteds or Barcelonas of this world were told they would have to go into the new season with just four of their current players and the rest were released and auctioned off to the highest bidder. It's not easy - but that is the backdrop to the fourth season of the Indian Premier League. Indeed, only two teams, the 2010 finalists Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians chose to retain four players so it really is a question of all change.

Just as back in 2008, it is therefore crucial for the franchises to gel, and gel quickly if they are to succeed. With the tournament also coming just six days after the conclusion of the World Cup - too soon, perhaps, for some - what price the Rajasthan Royals, for whom everything came together so well three years ago under the auspices of  Shane Warne, turning back the clock?

Well, 14/1, if you ask bet365, but don't underestimate the influence of Shane Warne and the fact that they have again chosen a number of young, hungry Indian players and although they are at risk if they suffer with injuries, a small squad could work in their favour.

The opening match throws World Cup winners and the heroes of the final Gautam Gambhir (Kolkata Knight Riders) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings) against each other as captains. Gambhir is seen by some as the natural successor to Dhoni (although for me, Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli would be better long-term bets) and will be desperate to win, not only to put one over on one another but justify his $US 2.4 million price tag. He is now the most expensive player in the tournament's history but his calmness at the crease could be exactly what the Knight Riders need.

They have garnered a reputation for building attractive-looking squads filled with superstars that fail to deliver consistently. They have managed to field a host of top Twenty20 performers in the likes of Brad Hodge, Brendon McCullum and Chris Gayle, for example, but hardly gelled as a unit. Perhaps 2011 will be their year.

Chennai will be there or there abouts come the play-off week. They retained and then reacquired many of the team which did superbly well in 2010 and following their Champions League win they are chasing a remarkable hat-trick as they continue to build their reputation as one of the most consistent and impressive Twenty20 teams in the world.

We also have two new teams in the Kochi Tuskers Kerala (or the franchise previously known as the Indi Commandoes) and the Pune Warriors. Kochi will be well-led by Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene, now freed of his role as Sri Lankan vice-captain and he will enjoy skippering his old mate Muttiah Muralitharan, one of the players Chennai didn't retain and were unable to recapture at auction.

Pune are my tip to reach the play-offs, along with Chennai, Mumbai and the Royals. I expect Yuvraj Singh, in the form of his life, to lift the team significantly - at least in the first few weeks - and if they can build a winning run, they could be the surprise package. Jesse Ryder and Nathan McCullum enjoyed decent World Cups while Graeme Smith and Robin Uthappa have one thing in common - they are proven IPL performers.

As for the rest - who knows? Past performances no longer count for much due to the way in which the make-up of the franchises has changed although I do expect Mumbai, driven on by Sachin Tendulkar, who will celebrate his 38th birthday during the tournament, to continue to be a serious threat. How can they not be with Kieron Pollard, Harbhajan Singh and Andrew Symonds in the squad?

What the shake-up and the auction has provided, is some extra interest as there is now genuine curiosity among cricket followers - young and old - as to how the new teams will shape up. Time will obviously tell, but most of all, we are all hoping for a tournament where the cricket does the talking. For too long, the IPL has had to beat off controversy after controversy.

For all the new players, auctions, dollar signs, Super Overs and sixes that are attracting attention for the right reasons, the IPL organisers will be desperate that the competition passes off as quietly as an IPL tournament can. That would be a success for everybody concerned.

IPL 2011: 'Daredevils will put in more than 100 percent'

07sli1 Delhi Daredevils is all set to scorch the field, if captain Virender Sehwag is to be believed. Riding high on the World Cup triumph, Sehwag, on Wednesday, said that he would like to lift the IPL trophy as well.

The dashing Delhi batsman, who confessed that he would like high-tempo music to be played during his time at the crease, said this time his team would give more than a hundred percent to emerge winners.

- Dhoni's Kings fired up to face Gambhir's Knights

"In the first two editions of the IPL we managed to reach the semi-finals, but in its third edition we did not qualify even for that. I would like to change that.

"I am promising Delhi fans that this time around, the team will put in more than a hundred percent  and get rid of its tag as not being good finishers. We want to lift the Cup this time," Sehwag said, in response to a question from rediff.com.
