Fans can buy tickets for home matches of Mumbai Indians online five to seven days in advance before they go on sale to the general public during IPL 4 of the T20 League commencing on April 8.

Mumbai Indians and MasterCard Worldwide are offering a ticket pre-purchase window for all the Indian Premier League franchisee's seven home games to be booked through Bookmyshow.com till March 31, a media release said.

The on-ground sale for these matches would not commence until after the pre-purchase window ends, the release added.

MI, owned by IndiaWin Sports - a group company of Reliance Industries - and captained by Sachin Tendulkar, are scheduled to open their IPL campaign against Delhi Daredevils on April 10 in New Delhi.

The first home match of MI, who finished runners-up to Chennai Super Kings in IPL3, is on April 15 against new franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala at the Wankhede Stadium.

The other home games for the franchise are: April 19 vs Pune Warriors; April 22 vs Chennai Super Kings; May 2 vs Kings XI Punjab; May 7 vs Delhi Daredevils; May 14 vs Deccan Chargers; May 20 vs Rajasthan Royals.

Times, Nimbus scout for global partners to sublicense IPL rights

Times Internet and Nimbus Communication on Tuesday said they are looking for global partners across media platforms to sublicense IPL rights that they have bagged this week from the BCCI.

The BCCI on Sunday announced that the media rights tender for IPL's global Internet, mobile and radio rights, along with television rights in certain television territories have been awarded to a consortium led by Times Internet Ltd for Rs 261.6 crore for four years till 2014.

A part of the consortium, Nimbus said it has the global broadcast rights, excluding territories of the Indian sub-continent, Australia, South Africa, West Asia, the Caribbean, Hong Kong and Singapore. It is now scouting for tie-up with global partners in over 60 countries.

"We are in talks with companies for partnership in over 60 countries for which Nimbus has bagged the TV broadcast rights for IPL," Nimbus Communications COO Yannick Colaco told PTI.

The TV rights for Indian sub-continent along with certain other territories that continue to be held by SET MAX were however, not part of the tender offer. The IPL 2011 season starts on April 8 when Chennai Super Kings host the Kolkata Knight Riders in Chennai.

Colaco said Nimbus is mainly looking at advertising and subscription as primary revenue streams from the international markets.

Similarly Times Internet that has radio, Internet and mobile rights for the IPL is also looking to sublicense the rights with BCCI's approval in countries outside India.

"Primarily, we would be looking at sublicensing of mobile and radio rights in territories that we are not present in, with the approval of the BCCI," Times Internet CEO Rishi Khiani said.

He said in case of the Internet, the company will manage almost all the territories across the globe on its own.

"There is a huge opportunity to tap large audience in cricket playing nations and countries which have a big chunk of cricket fans," Khiani said.

For revenue generation, the company is looking at different models, including advertisements, subscription, sponsorships and pay-per-page download, he said.

Neither Nimbus nor Times Internet divulged the revenue expectation from the new rights merely saying the event offers an opportunity to make good money.

Times Group-led consortium wins IPL internet, mobile rights

A consortium led by Times Internet Limited on Sunday won the Indian Premier League's global internet, mobile and radio rights, along with television rights in certain territories, for Rs. 261.6 crore for a four-year period.

"The IPL Governing Council today announced that the media rights tender for IPL's global internet, mobile and radio rights, along with television rights in certain television territories, was won by a consortium led by Times Internet Limited, part of the Times of India group, for a total rights fee of Rs. 261.6 crore for the four year period 2011-14," BCCI secretary N Srinivasan said in a statement.

Multi Screen Media (MSM), owners of Set Max, earlier held the broadcasting rights of the Twenty20 league until 2017. The firm, along with World Sports Group, had signed a deal with BCCI in 2007 for Rs. 8,200 crore.

However, in June last, a new deal was renegotiated between the BCCI and MSM which kept WSG (World Sport Group) out of the broadcast deal.

This was after it uncovered alleged financial irregularities in the award of contract by ex-IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi in the form of payment of a facilitation fee of Rs. 425 crore.

Sunday's bid opening process followed the order of the Supreme Court. "Justice Mukul Mudgal, retired Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana, was present as observer, as per the court orders," the BCCI said.

The IPL 2011 season starts on April 8 when reigning champions Chennai Super Kings host the Kolkata Knight Riders in Chennai.

"The television rights to the IPL for the Indian sub-continent, which continue to be held by SET MAX, along with certain other territories, were not part of the tender offer," it said.

Yuvraj Singh to captain Sahara Pune Warriors in IPL-4

An elegant southpaw, Yuvraj Singh, will lead the IPL franchise Sahara Pune Warriors.

Yuvraj Singh will lead the 30-member Sahara Pune Warriors in the fourth edition of cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL), starting from April 8, 2011.

Sahara Pune Warriors is owned by the Sahara India Pariwar’s entity Sahara Adventures Sports. Sahara Group has bought the IPL franchise for a whooping Rs 1702 crore last year.

Geoff Marsh has been appointed as the head coach and former England all rounder Dermot Reeve is the assistant coach of the IPL franchise.

BCCI releases provisional schedule of IPL 2011

OWING TO the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry, the governing body of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released a revised provisional schedule of IPL 2011.

The fourth installment of the hugely awaited IPL 4 is set to commence from April 8 until May 22. The Mahendra Singh Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings, which was the winner of the IPL 3, will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in the opening match of the IPL 4 on April 8, 2011 at MA Chidambram Stadium in Chennai.

IPL 4 will see 10 teams battling it out for the top spot.

IPL 2011: Delhi Daredevils calls for volunteers to be part of IPL 4 crew

WITH THE whole nation getting into a cricket frency as India takes on Australia in the second quarterfinals of the the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, the Delhi Daredevils, one of the IPL teams, has given one more reason for cricket fans to cheer.

Delhi Daredevils has announced the call for volunteers for the fourth season of IPL, giving the cricket crazy fans a chance to be a part of the Delhi Daredevils crew and to make their dream of being associated with cricket a reality.

On its fan page on the social networking site Facebook, Delhi Daredevils has posted a link where fans can fill the form and after strategic analysis they will be selected as volunteers depending on experience and passion for cricket.

Daredevil Volunteers will be required for the following activities:

1. Spectator Services - Helping spectators who have come to watch the match in the stadium. Assisting spectators with anything else they might need and managing the crowd.

2. Accommodation & Transport - Making transport arrangements, coordinating with travel agencies, assisting the accommodation and transport heads with all related activities.

3. Ceremonies Staff - Assisting dignitaries, guests and others to and from the stage during award ceremonies, carrying out awards and various articles among other related activities.

4. Venue Operations - Coordinating between various departments primarily on match days at the stadium and DD events held elsewhere, ensuring a smooth work flow throughout the events.

5. Press Operations - Assisting in media and press activities of the Delhi Daredevils, conversing and coordinating with journalists, media personnel and agencies.

6. Technology & Broadcasting - Working behind the scenes on updating and compiling data, operating on LAN interface and other computer-specific activities.

7. Workforce Operations - Ensuring supply and delivery of stock goods, erecting stands and facilitating various backend activities in and around the stadium.

8. Marketing - Handing out cheer items, managing tasks related to branding boards, banners, on ground implementation and other such properties.

9. Protocol - Guiding esteemed guests and dignitaries to assigned seating enclosures, ensuring they are comfortable and have a pleasant experience.

10. Ticketing - Delivering tickets, assisting in sales, online redemption and inventory management in relation to tickets. Travelling will also be a part of the tasks assigned.

Time Commitment

The selected volunteers will be required for a maximum period of 15 days. During this time, the volunteers will be required to be present on all the days dedicated for DD activity. Volunteers must arrange for their own conveyance to and from the venue.

IPL 2011 to be held in new more rigorous IPL format

THE INDIAN Premier League (IPL), 2011, will be contested between ten teams with two new teams added by the BCCI, i.e., Sahara Pune Warriors from Pune and Kochi Tuskers Kerala from Kochi.

IPL 2011 will be played  form April 8 to May 28 2011 with the new format, which was announced by the IPL governing council.

The format is based on last year's domestic T20 Tournament in New Zealand. In new IPL format, there will be total of 74 matches in the IPL 4 Fixtures. Out of these 70 would be league matches and each IPL team will play at least 14 matches, 7 matches will be played at home venue and remaining at away venues.

IPL 2011's new format is as follows:

IPL 2011 Teams will be divided in two groups of five teams each. But IPL Standings table will not be separate.

Each IPL team in the same group will play two matches against each other, on “home-away” ground each, counting to 8 league matches per team.

Each IPL team will play 1 league match each against 4 teams of other group and 2 league matches home or away against the fifth team selected randomly, counting to 6 matches per team. It results in 14 (8+6) games in the league matches before the next playoff round.

All IPL 2011 league matches will count to 70 before 3 playoff matches begin, namely Game A, Game B and Game C.

Top 2 teams in the IPL points table will play each other in first playoff of Game A. Winner of Game A will go straight to the final.

Game B, 2nd playoff will be between teams at third and fourth spot in the IPL standings. Whoever looses Game B will be out of the league.

Game B winner will still need to contest in third playoff Game C against loser of first playoff i.e. Game A for entering into Finals of IPL 2011.

Then, off course, the last match, IPL 2011 Grand Finale, would be played between winner of Game A and Game C.

With the assembly elections coming in between the hugely awaited IPL 4, the Board of Control for Cricket in India released a provisional schedule for IPL 2011, which will see 10 teams battling it out for the top spot. Injured Broad and Mascarenhas out of IPL

Kings XI Punjab will be replacing England all-rounder Stuart Broad and Dimitri Mascarenhas in their squad for the 2011 IPL, as both players are unavailable for the tournament due to injuries, a franchise official has said. Broad picked up a side strain during the World Cup, while Mascarenhas has not yet recovered from surgery to fix his achilles injury.

"We are still in the process of identifying their replacements," Colonel Arvind Singh, the chief operating officer for Punjab, told ESPNcricinfo. "I am in touch with the coach and the captain."

Under IPL rules, the replacements have to be chosen from the pool of players who went unsold in the January auction, and cannot be paid more than the players they are replacing, though they can be paid less, depending on their base price in the auction. This limits the choice of players to those whose base price is equivalent to, or less than, the players being replaced. Broad was bought for $400,000 while Mascarenhas was bought for $100,000. Both replacements will be for the 2011 season only.

Punjab opens the tournament on April 10 against Sahara Pune Warriors at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. The team began its preparations for the tournament on Monday with a six-day fitness camp at the HPCA Stadium, with the final camp for the full team to be held at Mohali from April 2 to April 8.

Mumbai Indians have also signed a replacement player, according to a BCCI statement listing the players in each team, with Sri Lanka fast bowler Dilhara Fernando coming in for Australia fast bowler Clint Mckay, who was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his left foot in January. Pune are the only team to sign the full complement of 30 players, while the Kolkata Knight Riders have the fewest players on their roster with 20. The defending champions Chennai Super Kings have 23 players.

The Deccan Chargers, who have 27 players in their squad, still have US $1.49 million out of their allotted $9 million, the most of any franchise, while Punjab has approximately $1.46 million left over. Rajasthan Royals, whose salary cap was reduced by a court order, have spent all of their money. The Mumbai Indians, one of two teams to retain the maximum four players, have $1739 remaining. Chennai, the other team to keep four players, have $15,435 left over.

Indiatimes Consortium Wins 4 Year Global IPL 2011 Media Rights For Rs. 261.6 Cr

A consortium led by Times Internet Limited* (Indiatimes), the Internet and Mobile company from the Times of India Group, has won the global rights to the Indian Premier League for Internet, Mobile, Radio and Television (for certain territories). The consortium will pay a total rights fee of Rs. 261.6 crore rupees for the four year period 2011-14. The IPL is the premier T-20 Cricket tournament from the Board for Control of Cricket in India. A quick take on the deal (we’ll have more later):

- Who has TV rights? The entire consortium has not been named by the BCCI. Why is that? If it is indeed a consortium, as the BCCI says, then there should have been a broadcasting partner named. As per the structuring of the sale, the consortium would have bid for all rights.

- Global TV Rights, Not India: This doesn’t include Television rights for the IPL for the Indian sub-continent and certain other territories, which are held by SET Max.
– Minimum Reserve Price: We have it from multiple reliable industry sources that the minimum reserve price was for the each of the digital segments (Internet and mobile) was Rs. 20 crore.
– Cricket Site From Indiatimes? Given the investment in the rights, could we see the launch of a Cricket specific property from Indiatimes? ESPNCricinfo is the thought-leader in the space, but Yahoo has tried to leverage its ICC tournament rights (which, incidentally, will be up for grabs soon), and there are others like Cricbuzz.com and Network18 owned CricketNext. Indiatimes doesn’t have a Cricket specific property, but with group media resources at their disposal, there’s an opportunity. Remember that Global Cricket Ventures owns the domain name Cricket.com, while ESPNCricinfo owns Cricket.org. We’ve requested Indiatimes for info on the deal and their plans, so will update with more.
– Global Cricket Ventures: Given that Indiatimes has won these rights, this could well signal the end for Global Cricket Ventures. Why would anyone buy Elephant Capital’s stake in the company now?

IPL Media rights have been at the center of much debate and litigation, particularly between the World Sports Group and the Board for Control of Cricket in India, and Justice Mukul Mudgal, retired Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana, was present as observer at the bid opening process, as per the orders of the Supreme Court. The IPL 2011 season starts on 8 April.

IPL tickets to go on sale from tomorrow

Tickets for the opening match of the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League, to be played between defending champion Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders here on April 8, will go on sale at the MAC Stadium, Chepauk, on March 24. Tickets can also be purchased at www.chennaisuperkings.com.

Tickets have been priced at Rs. 500 (A, B, C lower tier), Rs. 1,200 (G, H, I lower tier), Rs. 2,000 (A, B, C Upper tier), Rs. 2,500 (G, H, I upper tier), Rs. 3,000 (D lower tier and F lower tier), Rs. 4,000 (D, E, F upper tier), Rs. 5,000 (T3), Rs. 8,000 (Pavilion terrace) and Rs. 15,000 (Anna Pavilion).

Air-conditioned hospitality seats in the middle tiers of A, B, C, G, H and I will be sold at Rs.15,000 and hospitality seats for D, E and F will cost Rs. 25,000 per seat.
