New Zealand did not allow any chance of any upset to Canada as the Kiwis easily beat them by 97 runs in the ICC World Cup at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.
The Black Caps first blasted the Canadian bowlers making 358 runs for six wickets in their fifty overs. In reply Canada scored 261 runs for the loss of nine wickets in fifty overs.
Ross Taylor again shined with the fireworks of bat hitting 74 runs in just 44 balls which included five sixes and six fours. Taylor, the stand in skipper for Daniel Vettori got a perfect foundation with Brednon McCullum's century. Though Brendon has started quite ferociously completing his half-century in 38 balls. He got his century in 107 ball hitting two sixes and twelve fours.
Cashing on the tremendous running rate the later batsmen added almost one hundred runs in the last nine overs for New Zealand.
New Zealand seems to have developed extra love for raining sixes as they did again on Sunday. Ross Taylore hit the maximum five sixes while a total of twelve sixes were hit today.
For Canada Harvir Baidwan was the pick of the bowlers taking three wickets but he gave too many runs, 84 runs in 9.1 overs. John Davison though could take only one wicket but his economy rate was quite impressive given the onslaught of the Kiwis. He gave just 30 runs in his ten overs.
Under the pressure of a huge target of 359 runs, Canada started disastrously losing two wickets for just four runs in the fifth over. But the Canadian captain Ashish Bagai proved his contention that Canada was getting better by match. Ashish himself scored 84 runs in 87 balls including ten fours. AS Hansra also played a solid innings of 70 runs remaining unbeaten. For New Zealand Jacob Oram took three and Kyle Mills claimed two scalps.
