The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) has arrested 15 people for selling merchandise using the official ICC World Cup 2011 logo in the Pettah and Maharagama areas at low prices, police media spokesman Prishantha Jayakody said.
The suspects were taken into custody following a complaint lodged by two lawyers representing the Indian based company which was authorized by the ICC to sell merchandise such as T-shirts, caps, bags and cups during the World Cup, he said.
The ICC has also informed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) about the complaints they have received from the Indian Company.
A T-shirt with the original logo is around Rs.2000 but the suspects had been selling them to the public at prices as low as Rs.200 to Rs. 250, he added.
