Sri Lankan fans witnessed their team's shocking defeat in the key Cricket World Cup match against Pakistan Saturday night in the country's capital Colombo.
Sri Lankan fans who rated their team would win the World Cup could not come to terms when Pakistan outplayed them in the most unexpected fashion.
"That was shocking when we thought that we will go all the way winning all the matches," Sunil Jayalal, a city lottery seller said.
"Sangakkara's bad luck in losing the Toss was the cause of all this," Jayani de Silva, a super market teller said.
"Afridi (the Pakistani captain) crashes into Lankan plans" was the headline in the popular newspaper Sunday Times, which reflected the mood on the unexpected defeat.
Captain Kumar Sangakkara accepted that Sri Lanka had fared poorly.
"We lost far too many wickets too quickly," he told the post match press conference.
The result was the seventh straight win by Pakistan against Sri Lanka in Cricket World Cup since 1975.
Sri Lanka still have games left to play with Kenya and Zimbabwe, and the two stronger sides Australia and New Zealand.
