An epic battle is on at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera today as bitter rivals India and Australia – also the world's top two one-day teams – fight it out for the semi-final spot in the 2011 World Cup.
India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, however, lost the all-important toss in the do-or-die quarter-final but made his intention clear that spin would be his ace weapon when he opened the bowling with Southie off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
The gamble paid off initially as Ashwin drew first blood by picking up opener Shane Watson for 25 runs when Australia were 40.
Yuvraj Singh then dismissed the other opener Brad Haddin who was looking dangerous at 53 off 62 balls.
Earlier, fans were relieved when it was announced just before play that opener Virendra Sehwag was fit to be in the squad. He is coming off a bad knee which kept him on the benches in the last Group B league match against the Windies.
