250CC HYOSUNGS IN 2012 TO COMPETE WITH THE CBR250R’S PRICING: OFFICIAL WORD OUT

The 2011 Honda CBR250R’s launch and tremendous demand that is being exhibited for the premium sports motorcycle from Honda seems to have spurred many a motorcycle firm into action. While Yamaha confirmed it’s own 200-250cc motorcycle in the short term for the Indian market just days ago, Garware-Hyosung, who talked about a possibility of it’s 250cc twin cylinder motorcycle a while ago, now is getting very aggressive about the pricing as well.

The Garware-Hyosung combine plan to launch the Hyosung GT250R V-Twin Motorcycle in 2012 with a price that will rival that of the Honda CBR250R, 30,000 units of which Honda aims to sell in India every year. We think that a CBR250R rivaling price obviously would not mean something in the range of INR 1.5 Lakhs, but would be a price close to INR 2 Lakhs, thus rivaling the top end C-ABS equipped 2011 Honda CBR250R.

At under INR 2 Lakhs, the Hyosung GT250R would obviously be terrific value-for-money considering the fact that the grunty 75 degree V-Twin engine is a liquid cooled, DOHC, 8 Valve, oil cooled mill producing 29 Bhp of power and 23 Nm of Torque allied to a kerb weight of 168 Kg. The engine, which will be torquier across the rev range than single cylinder 250′s due to it’s traditional inherent strength of being a V-Twin in it’s latest iteration also gets fuel injection to bring it at par with newer competition.

When launched in 2012, it would be a India’s cheapest multi cylinder sports motorcycle with some neat stuff like USD front forks, which most certainly could open up the flood gates for similar offerings from other motorcycle manufacturers. All in all, the coming times for sure seem to be extremely exciting for the Indian motorcycle enthusiasts, who have for long been starved of choice in the 250cc premium sport motorcycle segment.
Here’s Diya Garware-Ibanez, Managing Director of Garware-Hysoung, talking about the 250cc motorcycle lined up for India in 2012.
