AHMEDABAD, India (Reuters) - India ended Australia's remarkable 12-year reign as World Cup champions with a five-wicket win Thursday, setting up a semi-final clash with Pakistan on March 30.
Opting to bat first, four-times champions Australia rode skipper Ricky Ponting's (104) 30th ODI century to post 260-6 which seemed a strong total at the Sardar Patel Stadium's low, spinning track.
The co-hosts used seven bowlers, with Yuvraj Singh, Ravichandran Ashwin and Zaheer Khan claiming two wickets apiece.
When India returned, Sachin Tendulkar (53), Gautam Gambhir (50) and Yuvraj (57 not out) struck half-centuries to overwhelm the target with 14 balls to spare and send the 1983 champions into the last four.
