Pakistan cricket team stormed into the Semi-Finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 on Wednesday after defeating West Indies by 10 wickets, but the world’s fastest bowler still thinks he can offer a lot to Pakistan in the tournament.
Shoaib Akhtar, who has got 247 wickets in One Day Internationals, told reporters here Wednesday that he is still the fastest bowler in the World Cup and wants to have a one final go at the opposition before bidding farewell.
The Rawalpindi Express lost the confidence of skipper Shahid Afridi after New Zealand stand-in captain Ross Taylor blasted him for 28 runs on March 8 and since then he has been waiting for his chance to prove his mettle.
Showing confidence in the team management, Akhtar said he wanted to end his career with 250 wickets but if the skipper doesn’t find a place for him in the playing eleven than he can’t do anything about it.
He said that for him Pakistan always came first and if youngsters are ready enough to take his place he will bid farewell to the game in a relaxed manner. “Of course, I will be disappointed if I don’t get one final chance to have a go at the opposition batsmen”, he told Bangladeshi media.
Wahab Riaz has replaced Shoaib Akhtar in the team and has failed to perform in the two matches that he has played getting only one wicket and leaking a little too many runs. This is one thing that can make Shahid Afridi’s mind to turn back to his most experienced and the world’s fastest bowler to deliver the goods in the Semi-Final clash against either India or Australia.
